EV vs ICE Battle of New vs Old tech

BACKGROUND –

The Electric Vehicle (EV) market demand is growing rapidly, mainly to focus on reduction in carbon emission and dependence on fossil fuels. Which will positively affect in controlling global warming influences . EV’s extract power from Li-ion battery. Which allows a vehicle to gain maximum driving range from Li-ion batteries. Nickel based batteries have widest survival in temperature range, in temperatures from cold northern winters to hot desert summers. Nickel batteries have very high cycling capacities.

Lets have a look at EV car battery replacement cost in India

In current scenario EV batteries are expensive to replace. However in future as more Indian and foreign companies are investing in battery manufacturing which will be more affordable to end users.

To give you an estimate here is how much Indian manufacturers charge approximately for battery replacement based on the capacity.

MG Comet EV : 3 L (Approx)

MG ZS EV : 6-8 L (Approx)

TATA Tiago EV : 3-5 L (Approx)

TATA Punch EV : 4-5 L (Approx)

TATA Nexon EV : 4.5-5.5 L (Approx)

Mahindra XUV 400 EV : 5-6 L (Approx)

These are estimated prices

lets have a look at price comparison between EV & ICE

TATA CURVV EV 17.49 L – 21.99 L (ex showroom)

TATA CURVV ICE 9.99 L – 18.99 L (ex showroom)

TATA NEXON EV 12.49 L – 16.49 L (ex showroom)

TATA NEXON ICE 7.99 L – 15.50 L (ex showroom)

As we can see the price difference between EV & ICE are very huge.

purchase cost of an EV’s are more costly. EV’s running cost is around Rs.1-2 /- per km. however on the other hand ICE vehicle purchase cost is less but running cost could be around Rs. 8-10/- per km depending upon fuel type.

When we compare service cost EV have less service cost because it has less moving part where ICE vehicle have higher service cost due to higher number of moving parts

EV only have battery changing cost to greater extent. To make a note here manufacturers offer 7-8 years of battery warranty which give peace of mind to some extent to EV owners.

EV IS FUTURE no doubt in that. but current scenario all the factors  are affecting the purchasing decision to a very great extend.

Positively charging infra in India is building rapidly which will help in increase EV’s demand in future.
